Song: The Future

Song: The Future is an interactive game performance centred on an opera form that originated amongst Chinese female textile workers, namely Yueju. The product will look at connections between UK-China consumption patterns through assessing creative output sparked by the textile industries in the two cities. The performance will be led by a digital avatar of the female protagonist, Lu, who recounts her heritage as the daughter of a textile worker who was made redundant following the closure of factories. The product is due to be test-launched in rural-urban Shanghai in October 2022.

Song: The Future was test launched in the UK in October 2022 and collected first round of data in the UK by February 2023. It has entered the phase of collecting data from China audience and test UK-China mobile digital compatibility and understand audience shared memories of textile industry in/tangible heritage across the UK and China.
