Bridging the Gaps Prelude

Bridging the Gaps Prelude is a one-year UKRI/AHRC award captured by Dr Haili Ma in 2019. It is the first UKRI fund series exploring UK-China Creative Industries Partnership. Outputs include seven documentary films made by China partners, led and directed by Dr Haili Ma from the UK.

Each documentary tells the interwoven evolution of Shanghai All-Female Yueju and the Shanghai Textile Industry from their initial formation in the early 20th century to post-industrial new millennium digital transformation. The digital documentaries are the first step of an ambitious project which aims to evoke the shared memories of post-industrial transformation between the UK and China as a way to bridge understanding of the UK-China audiences and communities.
