Bridging the Gaps restarted

Welcome back to Bridging the Gaps! Although COVID travel restrictions still poses challenges to UK-China collaboration, Bridging the Gaps has restarted in April 2022 and is scheduled for completion in March 2024.

There are some adjustments made to the practice-lead research and expected outcomes: the project was initially designed to work in collaboration with UK-China partners to develop digital performances to ‘bridge’ the rural-urban Shanghai and its respective community audiences as well as 'bridge' UK team's understanding of China CCI distinction.

The updated plan will see design and development of three mobile performances to bridge rural-urban Shanghai audience, but also UK-China in/tangible heritage space and audience. Focus will be placed on developing and examining three mobile performances: Dream of the Red Mansion by Shanghai Yue Opera House (2021), Song: The Future funded by AHRC (2022), and a third one to be developed in 2023.

Over the coming months, a series of performances and symposiums will be facilitated using hybrid methods to start working with UK-China partners on the concept and practice of Bridging the Gaps.
